In a filing to the stock exchange in this regard, Bharti Airtel has told that this contract given to Ericsson will give the company’s customers more coverage and increased capacity on the network. Bharti will also upgrade the Ericsson software of Airtel’s current 4G radios. Ericsson has about 170 contracts associated with 5G in more than 70 countries. It has been working with Airtel for almost 25 years.
Last month, Airtel has also given a contract of millions of dollars to Finland’s telecom equipment maker Nokia. Nokia had reported that the deal includes its 5G airscale portfolio using equipment. In this, the current 4G network of Airtel will also be modernized with multiband radios and baseband equipment. These equipment can also support 5G network. Negotiations are going on between the two companies. However, Tata Play’s DTH service is running in deficit. Buying this business will increase the presence of the company’s digital TV segment. The company is getting competition from DishtV and some other companies in this segment.
Recently, Airtel became the best 5G experience provider due to the fastest download and upload speed of its 5G network. The company finished first in many categories including download speed, upload speed, live video, video streaming and gaming. The company’s share price has increased in the last few months. Airtel made a partial payment of Rs 8,465 crore from its outstanding amount in the 2016 spectrum auction in 2016 a few months ago. However, the company has not told how much outstanding amount it has to pay after this payment.
