NCPI issued a warning for Call Merging Scam

They are using call merging service. In its post, UPI has also told how this scam is happening and how can it be avoided.
What is call merging scam?
- Unknown call receiving: Scammer calls from an unknown number and claims that he has found your number from your friend.
- Request to merge the call: He states that your friend is calling from another number and asks you to merge the call.
- OTP stealing: As soon as the call is merged, the scammer is connected to your bank’s legitimate OTP verification call. During this time, without your knowledge, the OTP scammer is found, so that he can withdraw money from your bank account.
How to avoid this scam?
- Beware of unknown callers: Do not merge the call with an unknown person, especially if he requests to merge the call.
- Verify the identity of the caller: If a person describes himself as your bank representative or acquaintance, confirm his identity.
- Report unwanted OTP: If you receive an OTP of a transaction that you have not started, immediately call and report on 1930.
