Meta denies forcing users to follow Trump administration accounts

Meta, the parent company of platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, has given its clarification. Meta has said that it did not force users to follow the accounts of US President Donald Trump and others. Users had raised the issue on social media that without their knowledge they were following the accounts of Donald Trump and other people associated with the administration.

Meta has clearly denied that it has not forced any user. The accounts of Trump, First Lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance are managed by the White House. Therefore, with the arrival of a new administration, the content on these also changes. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone gave this information through a post on social media platform X.

The post said that users were not automatically made to follow any Facebook or Instagram accounts. Stone said the same process happened during the last presidential transition in 2021. As these accounts change ownership and change hands, follow and unfollow requests may take some time to complete. This answer was given to a question in which some users had complained that they were not able to stop themselves from following the new administration.

After Trump won the election in November, Meta’s owner Mark Zuckerberg has been continuously trying to maintain his image in the eyes of Trump. Amidst this, such complaints are coming from the users that Meta is forcefully making them follow the new management. Zuckerberg also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Donald Trump.
