A media Report In the Telecom Department (DOT) data, it has been reported that there were a large number of customers shifting from other telecom companies to BSNL between July and October. In July, about 1.5 million subscribers from private telecom companies shifted to BSNL. This number was increased to about 21 lakhs in August, about 11 lakhs in September and about seven lakhs in October.
The subscribers number in BSNL in June was only 63,709, while the subscribers shifting to the network of other telecom companies were about four lakhs. Apart from this, the sale of new SIM cards of this government telecom company has also increased. The company sold around 7,90,000 SIM cards in June. The number was increased to about 49 lakhs in July, about 50 lakhs in August, about 28 lakhs in September and about 19 lakhs in October. In the first half of this financial year, BSNL’s net loss has come down to about Rs 2,785 crore. The loss was about Rs 2,951 crore in the same quarter of the last financial year.
BSNL has increased its 4G network rapidly in the last few months. By the end of October, the company had installed over 50,700 4G sites. Of these, more than 41,950 sites are functioning. Recently, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar had stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the 4G equipment that the company is using can be upgraded to 5G. He said that the supply of 4G equipment was started in September last year to BSNL under the ‘Atmaar Bharat’ campaign. As of October, the company installed 50,708 4G sites and is working 41,957 sites. The company hired Boston Consulting Group (BCG) to suggest strategy to improve business. BCG has submitted an interim report to the company in this regard.
